NANNY
Our Nanny was a warm, compassionate woman who always went out of her way to help others – no matter what. She was a proud and dignified woman who had a passion for life. She had a wonderful sense of humour which endeared her to everyone she came in contact with and it is a great testament to her nature that she formed so many long lasting memories and friendships over the years.
Nanny was loved by her Grandchildren dearly and we all have our special memories of our times with her. A few memories that I particularly remember are the time she rang me when Take That split up to make sure that I was ok, another time when we were driving somewhere and ‘Show me the way to Amarillo’ came on the radio and we were both singing very loudly in the front - Sha la la la la la la la.
A very recent memory that still makes me smile now is when we were eating a few cherries and she told me that when she was a little girl and she found a double cherry she would wear them on her ears as earrings – I always remember this when I am shopping.
Scott and myself will always remember when we were sat in the bus station in Doncaster waiting for a bus and all three of us sat there giggling singing the “Nuts, whole hazelnuts, Cadburys make them and cover them in chocolate” (if you don’t remember this go on You Tube and then imagine Nanny singing it very loudly).
Scott and I’m sure Shane will also fondly remember the summer holidays when we spent about a month with Nanny and I particularly remember the pair of them coming home after rolling around in the hay bales covered in dirt and Nanny telling them to go and get in the bath. I also remember when she got a soda stream and I was so excited and she would let me press the button until the machine made, and I quote ‘a burping noise’.
I also proudly remember telling her when I was expecting my baby and she was so happy because she never thought she would see me have a child of my own, and I’m so glad that she got to meet Imogen and I’m also glad that I honoured Nanny by giving Imogen her second name.
Although Imogen, Blake, Zac and Saskia may not have many memories of their time with Nanny I’m sure we will all make sure they know how much their Great Nanny loved them all and we will share all our special stories and memories with them as they get older.
Scott and I love you Nanny and we and everyone here will miss you every day. I hope you sleep well. Scott and I want to thank you Nanny for our lovely precious Mum and all my lovely Uncles, Aunties and Cousins that have made my family special to me.
